This Historic Church building in Bingen, Washington is now the home of the Gorge Heritage Museum.  The church on the right is the original Catholic Church in Stevenson, Washington. It is now a personal residence.

Pictured below are the Riverside Community Church in Hood River, Oregon and a historic church in Wasco County, Oregon.

Pictured below on the right is the St. Peter's Landmark in The Dalles, Oregon. This 110 year old former Catholic Church is listed on the National Historic Registry. It was saved from demolition in 1971.

The Historic Pine Grove Methodist church is located in Pine Grove, Oregon located about 6 miles south of Hood River.

There were 7 home sales January 2010 in Wasco County compared to 9 homes sold last month, December 2009.  This is the latest sales data for Wasco County from the RMLS. Included are only sales of homes that are listed on the RMLS.  Unlisted properties and fsbo homes are not included.  6 homes were located in The Dalles and 1 in Maupin.  If your home is priced correctly it should sell in a reasonable time frame in this market.  There are currently 24  homes sale pending in Wasco County. 22-The Dalles, 1-Tygh Valley, 1-Dufur

There were just 2 sales in Klickitat County in January 2010 compared to 8 sales in December 2009.  One sale was for a small cabin on leased land at Northwestern Lake and the other sale was a house in Goldendale.  These sales comps reflect only properties listed on the RMLS.  Unlisted or fsbo properties are not included.

I haven't seen the sun enough lately around here. Even so there are still some nice views of the gorge if you're looking. I took this one Saturday looking west down the Columbia on Lincoln St. in White Salmon, WA.

There's no doubt about it, trees can make a huge visual impact on the setting of a homesite. A neighborhood with mature trees has a pleasant feel to it. Some tree sites you may like are the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Register of Big Trees. On projects my husband and I have done we always try and fit the home plan to leave existing trees as much as possible. Here are some tree pictures I've captured over the years.

The small town of Klickitat is located in Klickitat County in Washington State. It is a small town that was originally established in the 1800's. It used to be a mill town but the mill closed many years ago. The town is located about 30 miles north east of Hood River on the Washington side of the gorge. There are currently some good values for homes in the area. You will have to not mind living in an isolated small town setting. This could be just what the right person is looking for. The Klickitat Trail is a nearly level 31 mile old railroad corridor that extends from Lyle, Washington to Klickitat, Washington. It follows the Wild & Scenic Klickitat River for 11 miles then winds it's way up through Swale Canyon. You can enjoy spectacular river and canyon views along the trail, as well as oak and pine forests,and in the spring you can view many gorge wildflowers. The Klickitat Trail Conservancy is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Klickitat Rails to Trails as a special recreational asset. A great place to take a walk or go mountain biking. 

The January 2010  issue of the Gorge Buyers Guide is now available. The Gorge Buyers Guide is the largest free Real Estate magazine in the Columbia River Gorge. It has been published since 1989. Properties listed in the gorge including Hood River, White Salmon, Stevenson, Cascade Locks, Mosier, Bingen, Lyle, The Dalles, Goldendale, Trout Lake and more are featured in this publication.
